NOVELTY SONGS DEFINITION:
The novelty song is a form of popular music in which laughter or amusement is a primary aspect of its entertainment value in addition to any musical merit. Such songs often include, comical, nonsense, parody, satire, surprise, Innuendo, adult, and "gimmick" elements. Their meaning often rests on some pre-existing context or material extant in popular culture and require this to remain meaningful. Many novelty songs can become "one-hit-wonders" for otherwise little know artists. Novelty music is considered to be a small but significant division of poplar music with many artists such as George Formby, Allen Sherman, Weird" Al Yankovic and Ray Stevens specialising in it.
