Love Was Wedded in the Grave.
Copyright, 1895, by Harcourt & Rein.
Words by Charlie Rein. Music by Still Harcourt,

You've oft-times heard the story of those wedded without love,
The old, sad, wistful story, ne'er sanctioned from above;
A woman weak, not wicked, and a man who loved too well;
If all hearts told their secrets, many stories they would tell;
The fate of erring mortals this story tells you of,
A young wife and a husband, but a sweetheart had her love:
They were happy when together, hat the time for them to part
Came without a warning, and it left a broken heart.

Chorus.
Only a marriage without love, a mistake found out too late;
Could heaven arrange the wedding and allow such souls to mate?
Only a moment's pleasure, then a life-time filled with woe;
If the heart but did the courting, fatal loves we ne'er would know.

The sweetheart said, "Good-bye, my dear, and never prove untrue
To him you promised to obey till death should call for you;
I'll travel down life's path alone, the road so dark and drear,
Without a gentle hand to guide or loving voice to cheer;"
She tried to be contented, prove loving, kind and true;
The world scoffed at her efforts, and said, "God pity you"-
Her husband turned against her, and her sweetheart all she gave;
They ended life together, love was wedded in the grave.- Chorus.
