The country dance craze set off by the movie Urban Cowboy made a pop hit out of this old fiddle tune. Like many of these old tunes there are many versions. This 6 bar version fits the lyrics but there are also fiddle versions with 8 bars (4A,4B) and 16 bars (8A,8B). This tune is normally played in A so guitar and banjo play G with capo on 2. |
Chor Where do you come from? Where did you go? Where do you come from? Cotton-eyed Joe? Where do you come from? Cotton-eyed Joe? Do you remember, a long time ago, There was a man called Cotton-eyed Joe? x2 Old bull fiddle and a shoestring bow Wouldn't play nothing but Cotton-eyed Joe. x2 |
Play it fast or play it slow, Don't play nothing but Cotton-eyed Joe. x2 Could have married a long time ago, If it hadn't been for Cotton-eyed Joe. x2 |
