I he Germanic peoplesóthat is, those peoples which speak Ger≠manic languagesócan be divided into three groups on the basis of their folklore: 1) the English, including Scotland and Ireland; 2) the Scandinavians; and 3) the Dutch and the German-speaking peoples of Germany, Austria, most of Switzerland, and other areas in East≠ern Europe. Although these three groups of peoples speak related languages, their cultures cannot be considered particularly similar, and this is also true of the styles of their folk music.
