I GOT IT.

When a baby, if there was a tack on the floor-
I got it.
If the measles broke out within, ten miles or more-
I got it.
At school, when the boys into mischief had slipped,
They always escaped while I always got nipped-
The school-master said I was born to get whipped-
I got it.
A rich damsel's hand I once wanted to catch-
I got it.
I wanted Her papa's consent to the match-
I got it.
But the family dog used to eye me askance,
And one fatal evening he got a good chanceĀhe wanted the bosom of my Sunday pantsĀhe got it.
My gas bill was large, and once every four weeks
I got it.
I paid for the lights and I paid for the leaks-
I got it.
Last Summer I thought I would cut the bill down.
So I shut up the meter and went out of town-
I thought that for once the bill wouldn't come round-
But I got it.
I sighed for a hand as at poker I sat-
I got it.
A lovely club-flush, I had collared it pat-
I got it.
One by one they dropped out, but one fellow staid-
And out on the table my club-flush I laid-
When one of those beautiful clubs was a spade-
He got it.
